Why a Tooth Needs to Be Extracted

There are several reasons why removing a tooth might be the best path forward for your health. We will always explain the “why” behind our recommendation, so you feel confident in your decision.

Common reasons include:

  • Tooth decay beyond repair: When a cavity is too large for a filling or crown
  • Gum disease: Advanced periodontal disease can cause bone loss, making teeth loose
  • Wisdom teeth: These often become impacted, infected, or cause pain as they grow in
  • Overcrowding: Sometimes teeth need to be removed to make space for orthodontic treatment like braces
  • Trauma: A tooth that has been broken or fractured in an accident may need to be removed

The Tooth Extraction Process

We believe that knowing what to expect can help reduce anxiety. Your journey begins with a detailed consultation where we review your health history and provide clear instructions to prepare you for surgery.

On the day of your procedure, your comfort is our main priority. We offer various anesthesia and sedation options to ensure you feel relaxed. During the extraction, our skilled surgeons work efficiently and gently. Afterward, we will ensure you are resting comfortably before you head home to heal.

After The Procedure

Recovery is an important part of your treatment, and we are here to support you through it. Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how quickly they bounce back. Here are some tips to help you heal:

  • Immediate Care: Bite gently on gauze to help stop any bleeding. Applying an ice pack to your cheek can help reduce swelling
  • Common Symptoms: Mild discomfort and swelling are normal for the first few days. However, if you have severe pain or heavy bleeding, please give us a call
  • Diet & Hydration: Stick to soft, cool foods like yogurt or applesauce for the first few days. Drink plenty of water, but avoid using a straw as the suction can disturb the healing site
  • Oral Hygiene: Keep your mouth clean but be very gentle around the extraction site
  • Activity: Take it easy. Rest is the best medicine, so avoid strenuous exercise for a few days to let your body focus on healing

Common Questions

We believe in transparency and are here to give you clear answers to your questions. Here are a few of the most common ones we receive:

The cost depends on the complexity of the extraction and your specific insurance coverage. We will provide a clear, detailed cost breakdown during your consultation, so there are no surprises. We also offer flexible payment options to help make care accessible.

Your comfort is our priority. We use local anesthesia and offer sedation options to ensure you don’t feel discomfort during the procedure. You may feel some pressure, but it should not be painful. We will also provide a plan to manage any soreness during your recovery.

Most people feel back to normal within a few days. The gum tissue usually heals in about two weeks, while the bone underneath takes a few months to fully smooth over. We will give you specific guidelines based on your unique case.
